A Geometric Classification of World Urban Road Networks

چکیده
This article presents a method to uncover universal patterns and similarities in the urban road networks of 80 most populated cities world. To that end, we used degree distribution, link length intersection angle distribution as topological geometric properties networks. Moreover, ISOMAP, nonlinear dimension reduction technique, better express variations across cities, K-means cluster cities. Overall, uncovered one pattern between number nodes links all identified five classes Gridiron Cities tend have many 90° angles. Long Link disproportionately high long include mostly Chinese developed towards end 20th century. Organic short more non-90 180° angles; they also relatively historical Hybrid both links; evolved historically recently. Finally, Mixed exhibit features from other classes. These findings can help transport planners policymakers identify peer share similar characteristics use their craft tailored policies.

Urban road networks -- Spatial networks with universal geometric features? A case study on Germany's largest cities
Urban road networks have distinct geometric properties that are partially determined by their (quasi-) two-dimensional structure. In this work, we study these properties for 20 of the largest German cities. We find that the small-scale geometry of all examined road networks is extremely similar. The objectsize distributions of road segments and the resulting cellular structures are characterise...
متن کاملProcedural Modelling of Urban Road Networks
We present a model for growing procedural road networks in and close to cities. The main idea of our paper is that a city cannot be meaningfully simulated without taking its neighbourhood into account. A simple traffic simulation that considers this neighbourhood is then used to grow new major roads and to influence the locations of minor road growth. Waterways are introduced and used to help p...
متن کاملSpatial Partitioning of Large Urban Road Networks
The rapid global migration of people towards urban areas is multiplying the traffic volume on urban road networks. As a result these networks are rapidly growing in size, in which different sub-networks exhibit distinctive traffic flow patterns. In this paper, we propose a scalable framework for traffic congestion-based spatial partitioning of large urban road networks. It aims to identify diff...
متن کاملSegmentation of Urban Areas Using Road Networks∗
Region-based analysis is fundamental and crucial in many geospatialrelated applications and research themes, such as trajectory analysis, human mobility study and urban planning. In this paper, we report on an image-processing-based approach to segment urban areas into regions by road networks. Here, each segmented region is bounded by the high-level road segments, covering some neighborhoods a...
